The origins of hydroelectric production in our canton: a real jewel!

Almost forgotten, but full of history and pride, is located in the district of San Josecito, a true jewel of our beginnings in the production of renewable energies. It transports us to the end of the last century, where our citizens used to free the darkness with canfín lamps and candles and the kitchens were filled with burning firewood. We dawned with the sun and the day ended at the crest of the moon.

Let us remember that 71.95% of our country's electrical energy is produced from water and in this mystical place, with German machinery dating back to 1915, we are reminded of our evolution as a canton and a country.

Address: Avenida primera, San Josecito de San Rafael.

How to get there: you can arrive by vehicle or by bus. The bus stops on the main street that goes to the center of San Rafael.

What to do? At the moment it is not open to the public, we hope very soon it will be opened as an educational museum. It is a dead end street and from the cyclone mesh, you can see the building.

To consider: Unfortunately it is abandoned and lacking in maintenance.
